This was my JAM as a little kid! I still remember the first time I ever had it. Thanksgiving 1997. One of my first real memories. . The citrus smell of Mom’s orange rolls flooded me right as we sat down to dinner. I loved those orange rolls almost more than my Gameboy, which is REALLY saying something! And after family prayer, I grabbed one and spread it with what I thought was butter. And that’s when I found something I loved even more. Honey butter. So hold on to your honeycombs and get your bee suits on, because today, we’re talking salted pumpkin pie spice honey butter.
This stuff on toast may possibly be the best way to start a morning. On holiday rolls, it’s a blast. In fact, you should keep it right next to you through basically the entire winter, because it almost literally warms you up from the inside out!
What Is It?
Honey butter is a simple mixture of honey and butter! Pretty self-explanatory, eh? More technically speaking, it is a compound butter, of which many variations exist. Butter mixed with fresh herbs is a perennial favorite.
And what’s great is that compound butter can be used in pretty much any situation in which you’d use straight up butter (though I’d advise caution using it when you bake — there is an exactness needed in baking that makes compound butters less suited to baking than normal butter, regardless of how good they taste). Want to make a delicious scrambled eggs recipe? Use honey butter to make it, and marvel at the light sweetness that accompanies the eggs! Use rosemary butter on toast. See what I’m getting at?
It’s a pretty great little substance.
I like to make this particular honey butter my own by adding some kosher salt and pumpkin pie spice. You can choose your own accent flavors for it, and you can even change up the ratio of butter to honey for a more unique flavor. It’s an easy food and it’s an impressive food.
Is It Hard?
Not at all!
Unless you’re making absolutely gargantuan quantities, all you need is a bowl, the butter and honey, and a fork. Make sure that you use butter that is at or near room temperature. Cold butter don’t cream too well. Mix your ingredients. Then, just use your fork and cream it together (mash it together).
Anything Else?
Not really! Just enjoy the heck out of this recipe. It’s one of my favorites.
In other news, I’m heading home for the holidays, and I couldn’t be more excited! There’s something about going back that always makes me feel good. And, as it’s the end of the year, it’s a great time to make resolutions! I’ll probably talk about this a lot in the coming weeks, but resolutions can change your world. Each of us has unlimited potential. If we were to really commit, our entire lives could change radically in just a few months, let a lone in an entire year. So catch the spirit of the season and don’t let it go!
Look forward to the Mormon Food Guy Christmas menu! It’ll be coming Christmas week!
